Homeschooling - Day 1

OK, you need to read this post in a voice such as you would hear during a movie about a castaway.  Such as, "today was the 4th week of my isolation......"  That type of thing.

So, the girls enjoyed an extra week and a half of Break, but they finally returned to school yesterday.  I had planned and prepared everything as best as I could, but there really was no directions for how to do things.  The reality of what we have taken on is astounding!!!  Holy shit! This is a LOT of work, and it's completely crazy!!

The girls were each on their own computers.  They only had a few actual school lessons to do - most of it was how to handle the online learning, and taking their assessments.  The assessments were incredibly long and really hard for the girls.

During the first three hours, I was trying to work while also running between all three girls to log their attendance as they finished things.  I didn't sit down hardly at all during that time period.  Then, I had to stop the girls from taking their assessments in order to calm them down.  All three were crying at one point due to feeling stupid!!  They are finally figuring out how little they were being taught at Sandia.  It was really sad to watch them struggle with the concepts and realize that they had not been taught all that they should have.

I finally got them to understand that their teachers needed to know what they do know and what they don't know.  This will allow their teachers to place them appropriately in the units so they can catch up and then finish the semester.

Jordan and Mandy had a TON of work to do, and they worked all day very diligently.  They did not finish everything that was being required of them, but they did as much as they could.  They both loved that they could ride their bikes in the yard and have that count as PE time.

To celebrate the end of their first day, we went out for supper to Red Robin.  I wanted to reward them for working so hard and not giving up when things got difficult.  It will be hard for them to remember to be responsible and self-motivated, but they seemed to start getting it.
They were able to unwind and relax.  They each were talking about silly teen girl stuff, but they were also discussing their classes and how much they think they will like CAVA.  I'm just glad that I had another option rather than the local school district.

When we got home, I told the girls it was time for bed.  They initially did not want to go straight to bed, but they quickly realized that being mentally tired is actually quite bad.  They were all crashed pretty fast.
