I'm Alive, Mama!

I woke up to Jordan pounding on my door so she could talk to me.  This was really disturbing because I had only gotten 2 hours of sleep.

Yesterday, Mandy and Jordan were playing out back.  They suddenly got an interest in a basketball stand that the boys haven't used in years.  Apparently, there is a chain attached at the top and the bottom of the chain was hanging loose.  Mandy decided that she needed to attach the bottom somehow so that no one got hurt, so she jumped on the pole to pull the stand down and in the process, the free portion of the chain swung around and smacked Jordan in the head.

I watched this happen, but was powerless to stop it from happening.  There is no worse feeling than your stomach bottoming out and lurching because you see your child get hurt.

Jordan stumbled backwards as the chain struck her face, but she did not go completely off her feet.  She started screaming immediately, and I ran out to check her.  There was an immediate bump on her forehead, a mark across her nose and her lip was split and swollen.

I got her inside the house, put ice in a bag and stuck it on her face for 20 minutes on her forehead and then 20 minutes on her lip.  Within an hour, Jordan was "bored" of this and wanted to go back and play.  Because of all my head trauma and brain injuries, I apparently was over-cautious and made Jordan sit on the couch all day watching movies.  She was most upset when I wouldn't let her dance to the songs.

Every couple of hours, I flashed the light in her eyes to check to see if her pupils were reactive and the same.  Jordan said that I was "crazy" for "bugging" her so much.  I tried to explain that sometimes when you get hit in the head, there could be problems on the brain and you could die.  She happily rolled her eyes at me and went back to the couch.

So far, so good.

Then, it was time for bed.  Again, being the worry-wart that I am because of my own traumas, I erred on the side of caution.  I kept her up watching movies until midnight.  By 11 pm, Jordan took my face in her hands and said, "Mama, look at my eyes.  I can't keep them open ANY MORE!"

I discovered that there was a second DVD with the Anastasia movie, so I put it in and found there were games!  Awesome!  She played for another 50 minutes and then passed out.

Every hour, I woke her up because I had to be positive that she was OK.  By 3 am, I went to 2 hours, so again at 5 am, I got up and made sure she would wake up.

At 7 am, there was a pounding on my door, and I asked, "Which one is it?"

Jordan yelled through the door, "I'm alive, Mama!"

Ken and I laughed so hard when we heard her.  Only my child could take something that scared the crap out of me and make it funny!
