Well, the complete culture shock has set in!! We arrived at "The Taylor's House" and not only does everyone already know that the "Teacher from California" is the one who bought the house, but people started coming over to welcome us. It feels very weird but nice at the same time.
There was some adjusting when we got into the house. Both Ken and I went through a bit of Buyer's Remorse - except we did it separately because we didn't want the other one to worry. We saw a lot more problems with the house, and the neighborhood wasn't as amazing as we remembered.
As it turned out, arriving later in the afternoon after being on the road for two days and after weeks of stressing out about moving most likely contributed to our hesitation. Once we woke up in the house and drove around a little bit, we found that everything was just as nice as we remembered, and the extra repairs really weren't so bad. The house is 42 years old, so we expected to do some work.
Our friend, Michael Gallagher, made the drive with us, and helped us to settle in. We did not get as much painting done as we wanted before we had to unload the trailer, but the main rooms were completed.
On our first trip into Billings to the Home Depot, we required two carts and a flat cart for everything. This is just a sample of what we purchased:

Here was the total:
Yeah, talk about sticker shock!! It's a really good thing that we budgeted for this!! Ken and I finally got a picture in front of the house:
I also got out my tripod and took a picture of everyone together with more of the house in the background. I cannot get over all of the grass, and since we are on a corner, we have a LOT of grass to enjoy! We are going to have massive to-do lists now such as landscaping the front planters, re-doing the front entryway to make it look like the house it is and not a mobile home along with other repairs and upgrades over time.
Ken and I are excited that we were able to purchase a home together. I never thought I would be able to purchase a home, and while I couldn't do it on my own, my credit and finances were in well enough order to do this purchase. Talk about a major difference in just a few years!!
