Memorial Day

Many people have been wonderful and uploading great reminder pictures about why we have a three day weekend. However, this one was very poignant to me. Once again, I get faced with the reality that Ken's service will take him from me.

Rather than dwell on the depressive part of today, we celebrated. We hosted some friends and both Sean and Justin came over for a massive BBQ. Everyone ate themselves stupid and yet we kept eating.

Cynthia Grant made the cake - delicious and pretty
Ken taking care of the BBQ while also smoking the tri-tip
He is very proud of his jalapeno poppers
Taylor gorged herself on the poppers.
All of the kids had a great time eating and chatting.
It was great to spend the time with everyone and talk about fallen friends and the freedom our Country has and will hopefully continue to enjoy.

We, as Americans, are very blessed. Our Country was founded on glorious ideals by incredible men who had great vision. Hopefully, we will be able to return to the dream that was once what drew so many to our shores. Bless the men and women who freely give their lives!
Somewhere, we have a copy of this entire letter along with the information of whether it was the Navy Cross or the Medal of Honor that Ken's Uncle David received.  The Koehler men have predominately been Servicemen, and Ken is always proud to follow in his uncle's footsteps.
