Ken and I attended the Apple Valley Gun Club banquet last Saturday. We had a great time, and the Club actually turned a profit. The amount of work that Ken put in to the raffle items was intense, but it paid off at the very last second. And I do mean at the last second - there were items out for delivery on that Friday before and when Ken called to track the package at 4 pm, he learned that the package had not been delivered because it was damaged. Holy shit!! He did not have much time to get across town to retrieve the items that were acceptable. It was the last shipment, and there was a problem with it.
Oy vey!! We were so happy to take in the raffle items to the banquet hall and then grab some drinks and settle down. What a roller coaster!! We had fun - we didn't win any of the big prizes, but it was still good to see everyone.
Ken was asked to take a picture with Jerry and another Veteran. Jerry kept referring to Ken as "that Jar Head."
Our friend, Aaron Garcia, and his wife, Jennifer, joined us at the banquet again this year. The Club asked Aaron to speak a little bit about the problems and concerns with the firearms market - the ammo shortage, the firearms manufacturing schedule, etc.
It took me 3 days, but I seem to have finally gotten a grip on my work which ran out of control back in January. I *think* that I know what I'm behind on and what is coming up. I may actually be able to get my job done in a timely fashion. Thankfully, Jen helped me out a TON and Gina pitched in as well. I would have been screwed if they hadn't.
Karma knocked me up-side the head this week. I had a great time sending pictures of the sun back to our friends in Akron, NY when we returned, and then Mother Nature figured I hadn't had enough of the snow, so she sent some to us here at home and the girls got a Snow Day. Ugh! What a pain that was for me!!
There really wasn't that much snow, but school was cancelled any way. I had a lot of fun posting the picture of our front yard on Facebook and tagging all of our NY friends and family with the news. Apparently, many of them got quite the giggle out of it.
- Brenda Smith Schultz Oh my gosh .. If u need anything let me know !!! Hope u stocked up on milk and bread!! Lmao
- Ray Rincon That's all you got? We are looking at 6 inches +. Nothing shuts down out here until we get to that amount of snow.
- Kasey Koehler I understand that we do not snow plows or the ability to salt the roads, but this is pathetic! Well, and there's the problem that So Cal people can't drive in the rain let alone the snow. Sadly, I will now have 3 little people home, but I still have to work. Yuck.
- Ray Rincon I love snow days. I hope I get stuck at home tomorrow, I will still have to work remotely but will be able to do so in my PJs.
- Kasey Koehler I work from home all the time, but it sucks when the girls are home - they make it impossible to get anything done. Barbara - it's snowing over here again too.
- Barbara Degrassi Ermanno says it looks likes blizzard. Our patio is white.....Eeekkk....I poor pool table
- Kasey Koehler Dawn - I tagged our NY friends and family because I knew those of you who live with snow would get a kick out of our SoCal attitudes about it. LOL
- Ray Rincon Not snowing yet but it's cold and cloudy. They're saying 6-8 inches by noon tomorrow, mag chloride trucks already deployed and closures/cancellations starting. I love winter, it's my favorite season.
- Samantha Gilchrist Iannarelli OMG!!! Are you okay?!?! It may be weeks before you get out of that!!! BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Really?? The ground isnt even covered!! I hope you have enough groceries to last you through the storm! BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
- Kasey Koehler I knew you'd like that, Sam. Hahaha. We ended up with a couple of inches, but it was gone by 1 pm.
- Dawn Orszagh DiPasquale I know that they have to close because no one can drive in it, and they don't have the equipment to clear it. But even if we get 2 feet - they don't close the schools - it is usually based on the wind chill and not the amount of snow! It just made me smile! Loved that you shared it!
I laughed when I read some of the comments. Maire is from Sweden, so of course she can't believe it. I loved that Barbara told us that Ermanno thought we were having a blizzard and the others who live in snow-ridden areas all thought this was pathetic.
I was able to sneek out of the house last night and accompany Michael Gallagher, the DeGrassi's and the Pacers out for supper. It was so nice to have a night out with friends, wine, Italian food and laughter. Ken was out with Aaron Garcia for a campout, so it also helped to take the edge off of him being gone. Of course, I didn't get any sleep, but at least I had had fun. Michael Pacer has known Gallagher since they were in 10th grade which makes it, (gasp) 42 years now. We had a great time sharing our stories of Gallagher who was wondering why he paid for supper by the end of the night.
Ken and I played Contract Rummy with the girls tonight and then caught up on the SNL episodes. It was nice to get some relaxing in!
