Yesterday sucked.
That pretty much sums up the events, but I feel that more of an explanation is warranted. During this past school year, my professional life has been made fairly miserable because the Powers that Be have no idea what the hell they are doing. My counter-part, Jen Hubbard, and I have been left on our own all year to figure things out. We have muddled along fairly nicely, but the State of California has finally figured out that THEY don't know what they're doing either. This combination of slap-stick hilarity has made for one hell of a fucked-up school year.
To add extra fun into this mix, the State caught wind of my District's mess, and we have been audited. Not once, but twice! Oh the joy! With these audits came "Corrective Actions" meaning that we have to fix things and within a certain timeframe.
The worst Corrective Action was the All-Special Education Staff meeting that took place yesterday. This meant that everyone had to arrive at the Home Office and sit through what was a horribly excruciatingly painful meeting that had very little to do with our district. Some people were flown in that morning and the rest of us drove. We sat through 3 hours of how to check for compliancy as though we were all first year idiots, and then we got to review one of our own files.
Now, mind you, I don't mind being shown things again -sometimes we forget procedures, etc, but these forms aren't forms that we use at my District and they were BAD! Not to mention, the people running the training were completely disorganized and dragged it out twice as long as necessary. Most of us were saying that it would have been great if we could have found out what, precisely, WE needed to fix and how to do it. That would have made sense for this training, but then, we are discussing a government entity, so common sense and logic were not allowed in the building.
To add to this fun, I had already endured this training earlier this year in San Diego, but I was still mandated to attend this fun-fest one more time. It took me almost 3 hours to drive into Simi Valley from my house, and it was 2 1/4 hours to get home that night. The only good part was getting to meet co-workers I had never met face to face, and to see the ones that I had and actually like.
So, after all of that driving, and sitting in the room from 0900 - 1500, that was my fun day. There is some serious venting that I have done regarding statements made from some "supervisors" that have seriously annoyed me, but luckily I have Ken who has the patience of a saint and has listened to me rant and go off about it as well as Jen and Kym who love to listen to my complaining and empathize.
I was able to get a drink with Kym and Jen after the training. Jen had to meet us since she was spared this nightmare training, and before Kym left, I got the picture for the album - it was meant just for Ken:
The best part was that Jen had to shield her son, Shane, from the picture, but at one point, he peeked around his mother's hand. Kym and I found that hysterical, and Jen captured the moment.
Needless to say, Ken doesn't really care about anything else that happened to me yesterday. He was just really happy to get that first picture!
