Taylor + Running = ER visit

I received a phone call from the school yesterday afternoon. I was informed that Taylor had fallen while in soccer practice, and they were getting concerned because even with 30 minutes of elevating her arm and ice, she was still swollen and complaining about the pain.

When I arrived, Taylor was still crying, and her wrist was indeed very swollen. I grabbed her stuff, and we drove straight to the hospital ER.  I was sincerely hoping that since it was still early in the afternoon that it wouldn't be busy, but it was swamped!

The wait was 50 minutes to be seen by the triage nurse and then the doctor.  Taylor hung in there fairly well. (I personally hated the guy next to me with the head phones and music so loud that everyone could still hear it.) The nurse was great and cleaned up Taylor's knee for her - the school had put gauze on her scrape, but it had stuck to the wound, so the nurse cleaned it up for her and put some Neosporin and a band-aid.  The Tech was pretty quick, so we didn't have long to wait for her to go for X-rays.

Yes, Taylor was NOT happy that I took a picture of her in the ER.  She initially had her face covered, but I ordered her to put her hand down. I informed her that if I had to spend the time with her at the ER, then I got to take a picture of the event.

After the X-rays, we waited another 45 minutes, and then we were finally told that they did not see any breaks, so it was probably just sprained/bruised. Taylor is to keep using the sling for a couple days until she feels better, and then start working it again.  She is definitely going to miss a few days practice, and she may have to sit out her next game, but then she'll be fine again.

Sadly, there was more drama later that night when Ken and I informed Mandy that she would have to switch beds with Taylor since Taylor can't climb to the top bunk with her arm.  Mandy whined the entire time she did the switching, and kept crying about it. Luckily, she pulled herself together when Taylor pointed out it was just for a few days.
