I cannot begin to express my happiness that the girls are finally starting to enjoy reading. Jordan looked up from her book, "Junie B. Jones" who goes to Hawai'i in this latest book,a dn exclaims that she wants to go to Hawai'i herself! Jordan starts going into a ton of details about the things she wants to do: flying in the airplane to snorkeling to having coconut pancakes. I stopped reading my own book to listen to her go on and on about an idea.
Once Jordan was done discussing her ideas, she told me to buy the tickets for the plane. Yes, that's right - she told me to buy the tickets. I explained that buying plane tickets takes a lot of money, and lots of money isn't something that Daddy and I have right now. Jordan stopped, rolled her eyes up and was deeply thinking. She crossed and un-crossed her legs while tapping her finger on her chin, and she suddenly sat up straight and exclaimed she had an idea! She can sell lemonade in the front yard and she should have enough for us ALL to go to Hawai'i in about a week. She figures she'll start selling the lemonade and we're good to go.
Well, I had to remind her that she has school tomorrow, so the lemonade will have to wait. She again became thoughtful, and then she ran off to her room.
Jordan came back to the living room and placed two quarters on my leg. She said that I could have her 50 cents - it was money she was saving for a new car for when she graduates and heads off to college, but she decided that she would really like a trip to Hawai'i and THEN she'll worry about getting a car for college - somewhere between 15 and 16 she thinks.....
This child of mine never ceases to amaze me. The inner workings of her mind can be scary at times, but the fact that she is determined to travel and go to college warms my heart.
