Dad arrives

Ken was eagerly anticipating his dad's arrival.  This marks the first time that Dad, also Ken, has visited for any length of time in "Kenny's" adult life.  (I only get to call my Love, Kenny, when his family is around, and it makes things easier to distinguish between the two men.)  Ken wanted to make sure that he had plenty of things to do with his dad, and he wanted to not only have the visit be fun but also show Dad about California.

The night that Dad arrived, Ken had been to the VA and we were majorly stressed out about Ken's cancer.  I instantly felt bad that Dad was arriving to our crisis, but we were determined to enjoy ourselves anyway.

So, Dad arrived late.  The girls stayed up AS LATE as they could talking and all excited waiting for Grandpa to get to our house.  They were told to go to sleep because they had school the next day, but they were too excited - they crashed out anyway.

Once Dad got settled into the guest room, he and Ken had a drink and talked.  The next day, we took Dad to Deep Creek so he could see the waterfall in the desert.  I stayed in the truck while they took the short hike.

Dad only took pictures of Ken - not any of himself.

After delivering the girls to their dad Friday night, we took Dad out for sushi.  He had been to Yoshi's Sushi before, but this time it was just us.
OK, I again spent tons of energy trying to get Dad to smile.

Ken had enough of taking pictures and lost his mind

After threatening bodily harm, this was the closet to a smile that Dad would give me.

For some added fun, we took Dad to the Cadillac Ranch for a drink.  We wanted him to see our local night life, and Dad said that there were many people that you would see in the bars near the farm.  We didn't stay out late because we were going to get an early start for the weekend.  Ken said that he wanted to make sure to get one picture with me and Dad for the visit.

Even with a drink, Dad isn't smiling.
