My turn for 38!

Yesterday my turn for a birthday in this house.  I woke up early and headed to the range with Ken and some friends: Melodie (the amazing woman who works miracles with my hair) and her daughters, Vanessa and Michaela.  Melodie and Michaela wanted to learn to shoot, and we were happy to take them out.

The morning was hot, but it wasn't the full sun, so we got through the gun safety and then range safety.  Each of the three of them took turns shooting everything that Ken and I had.  It was great to see their excitement and how well they did.

I took some time to shoot my Kahr while Michaela was shooting the .22 to the left of me.  BIG mistake!  I had also made the mistake of wearing a low-cut sleeveless shirt to help with the heat, and apparently, I got two pieces of expelled brass down my shirt from the .22!  I started trying to get the brass off of me, but it couldn't happen fast enough!  I have three brands - one on my right clavicle and two on my stomach.  One is bad enough that it blistered immediately and is a perfect imprint of the casing.  Ugh!  Just what I needed!  Well, it's now a perfect reminder of my 38th birthday, right?

Once Ken and I got home, he and DJ started working on the Baja.  They wanted to get it up and running, so they spent a good portion of the afternoon getting parts and taking care of the things they needed.  I, in the meantime, spent the day being waited on hand and foot by the girls.  Every few minutes, they would tell me Happy Birthday again and give me lots of hugs and kisses.  Jordan kept trying to give me all of her things as presents, and I had to keep reminding her that they had gifts to give me, but she had to wait until Daddy was finished.

My first gift was a delivery from Edible Arrangements.  I got a little vase with some fruit shaped like flowers and a balloon from Julie.  Whoo-hoo!  What a great surprise!  I think she outdid me for when I sent her flowers shaped like a cake.

My friend, Martin came over to take me out for ice-cream.  We hung out and drank a beer while waiting for Ken to get home to take charge of the Little People.  We went to Nubi for some frozen yogurt.  I had never been there, and it was definitely as wonderful as I had heard.

As I do for everyone else's birthdays, I got to pick supper.  Ken BBQ's new York Strip, made his garlic mashed potatoes and corn on the cob.  It was wonderful and yummy!  I seriously was going to stick to the diet even though it was my birthday, but Ken said there was no reason to keep eating the Nutrisystem on my birthday.  Yeah, I didn't put up much of a fight.

After supper, I got to open my gifts:  a lightweight tripod, lens cleaner for my Nikon, and a remote for the Nikon.  Very awesome!

Here are all three of my sun catcher necklaces.  One from each girl!  They are now in my bathroom window.
Ken found me the perfect card again - made me cry; again!  And I got the iTunes gift card.  Yeah - more tunes!

This thing unfolds itself and sets up so quickly!  It's ultra-light for backpacking and camping as well!

With these two things, I can keep my lenses really clean now.  I hate getting pictures that have dust and other nasty things in them.
Oh yeah!  A remote for the camera!  Even Mandy caught on, "Mama!  Now we can take great pictures for Christmas with you in them!"

Ken had kept asking me what I wanted for dessert.  I kept telling him to not go to a big deal for me; cupcakes or ice-cream would be just fine.  Turns out, he had ordered a Black Forest Cake for me way ahead of time.  It was sooooo yummy, and I couldn't believe that he thought about me like that.

This is what happens when you give Ken the camera.  Taylor is still swearing that she's blinded by the flash.  It's a great shot though!

The cake was great and the girls almost sang in harmony (I have got to work on that, I know).

I played with my new tripod and got the remote all figured out - yes, Ken helped me.  I think he had more fun with the remote than I did!  Hahahaha!

There were a LOT of pictures that I did not post because they were just Ken playing with the remote.  There were pictures of me walking, bending over, of the girls moving throughout the living room, etc.

I got to enjoy a glass of wine on the back patio.  The weather was perfect today and the evening was gorgeous.  I loved all of the birthday wishes from everyone on Facebook, and I'm hoping I responded to everyone.  After loving the evening fade into night, I took a hot bubble bath and read some more.  I love the box of books sent to me by Debbie all the way from North Carolina.  I'm almost done with the third one, and I'm sure I'll forgive her for getting me sucked into romance novels. These aren't the sappy Fabio novels, and I'm really enjoying them.

All in all - it was the best birthday yet!  Ken and the girls truly spoil me each year, and I cannot begin to express how wonderful it is!
