Jordan turns 6!

(This is a long post, so be sure to get to the end to see more pictures!)

Ken and I got up this morning and heard Taylor and Mandy telling Jordan, "Happy Birthday!"  I got out of bed and went to open our door so that we could see the birthday girl.  Jordan came running into our room at full speed screaming, "IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!"

I picked her up and hugged her telling her Happy Birthday.  Then, she dropped out of my arms so she could go see her Daddy!  I gave her 6 spankings, and then Ken asked her if she was ready for her spankings from Daddy.  Jordan replied, "Oh!  Of course!"

We spent the morning working on the backyard to get it ready for a bounce house and a party with her friends.  After I returned from running errands, I got home and showed Jordan the cupcakes that I spent a fortune on at The Cake Store.  They are called Black and White: White cake with fudge center and fudge topping.  The cupcakes had Easter sticks in them, but Jordan didn't care.  She started jumping up and down in the kitchen all the while screaming that I am just the best Mama EVER!

(Please understand that there was an argument yesterday between Jordan and me.  She wanted to know why I wasn't getting her a cake for tonight because it's her birthday, and I explained over and over that she will be having a huge cake on Saturday - the very next day - so I don't want that much cake in the house.  She finally consented, but she was very adamant that she wanted me to buy cupcakes, not make them because she wanted "pretty cupcakes for her birthday.)

We needed to get more goody bag items, so I took Jordan with me to go shopping. While we drove down the street, Jordan was talking non-stop about her birthday dollar that she got yesterday and how she wants to get the Mango Tic-Tacs with her dollar and how she LOVES the Mango how the the Mango is her favorite and how she just loves her dollar and isn't it really great that today is her birthday....   (I hope that you are getting the idea of how much talking she was doing during this short drive.)

Jordan suddenly stopped talking and was looking around.  She could see Target, but I wasn't headed directly there.  She asked me where I was going, and I told her I had to stop at the bank in order to get cash for her bounce house tomorrow.  As we got out of the car, Jordan remarked, "Well, I'm not giving the bank my birthday money!  I want to spend it."

We then had a short discussion about how she should start saving her money, but if she wanted to spend her dollar, then it was OK by me.  When we got to the teller window, Jordan was talking non-stop again, "I just LOVE my birthday dollar.  I can't wait to spend my birthday dollar on Tic-Tacs because Mango is just my favorite.  Isn't it great that today is my birthday?  I know why today is my birthday.   It's because today is April 2nd and I was born on April 2nd.  Wasn't I just a little baby on April 2nd?"

The bank teller was busy handing me the money while laughing and shaking her head at Jordan.  She asked Jordan, "So, today is your birthday?"  Jordan smiled her famous smile, tilted her head and replied, "Ah!  How did you KNOW it was my birthday?!"  At this point, everyone is laughing at her.

Jordan's comedy routine followed us to Target.  She wanted to hold the basket since it's her birthday and she's 6 now, so she can hold the basket.  We went to the candle aisle so I could get some new candles (Beach Party by Yankee Candle), and when I picked one up and saw it was vanilla, I moved it to the box where it belonged.  Jordan instantly chastised me for putting something back in the wrong place and moved it back to the now incorrect box.  I told her that I thought it was completely ironic that she was putting things back correctly at the store, but she didn't care at home.  Jordan actually patted me on my head and laughed while telling me, "Mama, you're just so silly!"

We continued to the Party aisle and Jordan went nuts with picking out a ton of different things for her goody bags.  I had to tell her no after a while because her bags just wouldn't hold everything that she wanted to buy.  Her response, "well, let's get bigger bags!"  After telling Jordan "No,"  we went through the store to find a couple of things that I needed for the house.

I stopped to look for Disney's "Alice in Wonderland" for the girls for movie night, but Target didn't have it.  Jordan settled on "Pocano" which is known to the rest of us as "Pinocchio."  As we got to the check-out stand, Jordan was completely excited because she was going to find her TIC-TACS!

She stood on her tiptoes to try and find the Mango Madness Tic-Tacs.  She saw every other kind of Tic-Tacs than the one she wanted, and you could clearly see the disappointment on her face.  I saw the last one in the back (only because I'm slightly taller), and I handed the box to her.  Her entire face turned into a smile and she exclaimed loudly, "Oh Mama!  You're just the best ever!"

Jordan then started talking on and on again about how she just loves Mango and how she's going to share some with her sisters and she'll pick out two for Uncle and give two to me....

I stopped her to show her that the Tic-Tacs are $1.04, but that she only has a dollar which is $1.00.  Jordan looked at me with those big blue eyes of hers, and said, "Well Mama, don't you have any cents?"  I retorted, "No, I have no more sense left because I had you."  At this point, the lady behind us is laughing hysterically.  Jordan was still trying to see if I had money she could use, and she understood the play on words I was making.  "Mama, I know you have no mind left!  But I just need your money!"

When I was done paying for my items, Jordan handed over the Mango Madness Tic-Tacs.  The cashier informed her that her total was $1.04.  Jordan handed her the dollar and said, "OK, here' my birthday dollar.  Mama, can I have some of your cents?"  I held out my hand and showed her all of the change and told her to pick out 4 cents.  She started to go for the dimes, and I told her that those are worth 10 cents each. Then she got all excited and said, "Oh yeah!  The penny is 1 cents and it's the ugly ones!"  I had never thought that the penny was ugly, but that's how she remembered it.  She chose the 4 pennies and then handed them to the cashier.  Jordan was now dancing with her Tic-Tacs, and was ready to leave.

The cashier handed her the receipt saying, "Don't forget - here's your receipt."  Jordan gingerly took the small piece of paper.  Her voice dropped low as her eyes widened, and she quietly said, "Oh my lawyer!  I have a receipt!"  Then, she got all excited and started skipping in the aisle.  "Mama!  I have a receipt.  OH MY GOSH!  I have a receipt!  It's all mine -  my very own receipt!"  (Just to clarify.  Jordan cannot actually say, "Lord" which is a good thing given the whole taking the name in vain and all, so it comes out "lawyer" instead.)

OK, so the lady behind me is actually crying from laughing at my youngest child.  She put her hand on my shoulder and wished me luck with "this one."  I took Jordan by the hand and we walked to the car all the while I'm explaining that when you purchase something, you always get a receipt.  Jordan then informed me, "Yes, Mama.  I get it.  But this is the first thing that I have EVER buyed with my own money!"

I guess I hadn't thought about how cool it was to be able to purchase something with your own money, so I let her sing about how she has a receipt.  And yes, she was singing this at the top of her lungs throughout the parking lot.  There was no discernible tune; it was her own, but she was singing and proud.

This afternoon, Jordan managed to get a bag of candy and a small personal cup of ice-cream from the wonderful woman next door.  Linda is a widow who loves to hear the sound of my children playing, laughing and even screaming.  She spoils the girls by giving them treats over the back fence when they see her, and she even shares dog treats with Rocky.  When Jordan received the ice-cream, she asked Linda why she was giving it to her, and Linda (of course) said it was for her birthday. Jordan, feigning surprise, asked her, "How did you know it was my birthday?"  Linda answered that it would be too difficult for her to have NOT known it was Jordan's birthday since she's been singing about it all day.  Jordan sheepishly smiled and then ran into the house to enjoy her ice-cream.

Jordan spent the afternoon eating the nachos that she wanted, and playing inside then outside, inside then outside.

Ken too Jordan to the store with him to pick up some things that we had forgotten in yesterday's shopping.  When they got home, Jordan ran into the house holding a dozen red roses.  "Mama!  Look at the beautiful flowers that I bought you!"  Ken told me that he tried to get her to purchase the Easter bouquet or the carnations (knowing that roses are not my favorite), but Jordan insisted because they smell "beautifuller."  According to Ken, Jordan spent the entire time in the store telling everyone that it is her birthday today and then pretended to be shy when they wished her happy birthday.

Supper was chosen by Jordan:  pizza with nachos.  I got some great pictures of her with the cupcakes, and then I let the girls watch some TV before going to bed.  Movie night was cancelled so they could get some sleep prior to losing their minds tomorrow.

This is Jordan with her very expensive cupcake
Ok, so I want to get this picture sans Jordan's squished face to blow up for my wall
