Well, the day arrived. I had survived Taylor starting her period and "becoming a woman" as well as Mandy's moment. Now, I had to endure the statement by Taylor, "Mom, I want to start wearing make-up." Oh.Dear.God!! I wanted to respond by telling her that she is simply not allowed to grow up anymore. She has struggled with her decisions, and making herself up won't help.
Then, I realized that I had to back down. I gave the simple answer immediately, "Let me talk it over with Dad." That bought me a couple days while I mulled everything over. Ultimately, I couldn't put it off. She wanted to have more of a Goth look such as her current favorite band Black Veiled Brides. I insisted on a compromise - learn how to apply the make-up and show us she can be responsible with it for starters.
She agreed, and she earned the Day. So, down to Victoria Gardens we went. We had to do some shopping for both of us, and we found some great sales on clothes. Then, we entered the Bare Minerals shoppe where I informed the poor lady that I had no idea how to do anything and my daughter needs help to learn to apply make-up.
I never learned the woman's name, but she was very patient, and extremely helpful especially in light of the fact that neither of us knew what we wanted or had any ideas at all. Well, Taylor knew what colors she wanted. The woman was surprised when I said no foundation though.
She patiently went over everything with Taylor and allowed her to learn.
She had Taylor use a little black on the outside - explaining this is a great nighttime look. There wasn't too much change to Taylor, which I liked, and yet you can see that something is different. I paid close attention as well so I could learn. God help me, but I have two more daughters. Mandy isn't interested, but she may want it someday.
After we were done, we put all of our bags in the trunk and went to lunch. Taylor chose The Cheesecake Factory, and we went over the receipts so she can see exactly what she'll need to save up for her make-up and to help caring for the clothes. The make-up alone was $203. Ugh!! I did grab some of the mascara for myself. What a great product it is!!
Taylor spent the entire day (and I do mean, the ENTIRE day) telling me Thank You over and over again. She kept saying this was her best day ever!!! So, in the long-run, I had a total win as a Mama!! Yay for me! Taylor heard the woman at the make-up store say that her mom had always promised to take her somewhere to learn about make-up but never did. Taylor commented that she had the best Mom!
When we finally arrived back home, the Jelly Belly package arrived. I couldn't help but get the Bertie Bott's Beans for the girls as jokes. Some of these little things are truly hideous!
