A Silly Night

Ken spent most of last night at the Gun Club for the monthly meeting. There is still drama which makes me really glad that I do not attend anymore. Thankfully, Ken also turned down the two nominations for Board position and a Director position. Ugh! I can't imagine if he had done it - I'd never see him again.

While he was at the Club meeting, I was at home attempting to relax. Work is really stressing me out - I know, broken record - but it really is. I absolutely hate feeling like I'm not doing my job and knowing that I'm too busy to do a good job. Typically, my job is awesome. I work from home, and it's great to spend the first part of the morning in my PJs drinking coffee. I can take hours from one day and put them on another if I need to rearrange things for my personal life, etc. It's a great gig! But this school year, the workload has been sucking the life out of me, and it's draining. No matter how hard and much I work, I'm never getting ahead.

So, when Ken left, the girls were quiet in their room. I took advantage of that and lit the candles, put out my new Rosemary Italian Crackers from Trader Joe's and the Chevre Fresh and Raspberry Jam, poured myself a glass of Merlot with a new Nora Roberts novel that I was reading. Talk about spoiling myself!! I was loving the novel and every bite of the crackers and not even caring about the calories.

As I was enjoying my quality time with myself, I got a phone call from Michael Gallahger. Apparently, he had had one hell of a shitty day. So, he came over and joined me - which is always a great idea because now I was sharing the calories!!!  He brought me chocolate and a Montecristo cigar - yum! as well as a Romeo y Julieta cigar for Ken. Michael and I enjoyed sitting at the dining table talking and helping each other to feel better about life in general until Ken returned home.

Once Ken was home, we went to the back patio and enjoyed some of the Irish Whiskey that Michael brought over and the cigars. We had a great time and we realized quickly that Fall is definitely here - we were all very cold suddenly. Ken, in fact, was the first to complain, and he was asking to go inside the house. When Michael and I both said it wasn't that cold, Ken took measures to warm up, and I couldn't resist a picture. Ken, of course, did not feel like smiling for the camera, so I got quite the candid shot of my wonderful and loving husband.
I was laughing so very hard at the picture I had just taken, and then Ken decided to take the silliness up a few more degrees and ran over to Michael's lap.  Now, I was rolling and laughing so hysterically that I couldn't remember what had bothered me today.
Leave it to my "men" to cheer me up. Nothing like the Marine and the Air Force bonding!!  I am also happy to report that Michael was significantly cheered up as well, and he left around midnight much lighter than when he arrived.

So, these pictures inspired my hubby to come up with something to help keep us warm while we're enjoying our cigars and a drink. We have a fire pit, and we love using it, but usually only when the kids will be out there as well. Ken found a table-top heater, and it was installed as quickly as possible. Now, he won't have to cuddle with Michael to stay warm.
