Start of Summer Holidays

We arrived at Del Mar, and I loved every moment of smelling the salt air as we got settled in. We had difficulties this time with the customer service as they did not allow us to check in even a minute early.  It made things difficult on us, but we were finally in a cottage, and settling in.

While we waited to check in, we went to find bathing suits and shorts for the girls.  I was very disappointed that the prices at the MCX were so outrageous! I was not about to pay $29.99 for a bathing suit for Jordan! We went off base to Target and got suits and shorts for all three girls.

Along for the trip this year was Christina Kulasxa.  She is a former student of mine who has adopted herself right into our family.  The girls loved having an "older sister" hang out with them.    We set up the tent, got all of the food put away, and we were ready to go.

Christina stayed with the girls who ran straight to the water while Ken and I completed the shopping at the Commissary.  While shopping for our meal list, Ken saw that they had a ton of sushi available.  Since he, Christina and Taylor wanted the sushi, I told him to go ahead and get some for all of them, and the other two girls and I would enjoy sharing a pizza for supper.

Talk about excitement when Christina and Taylor saw the sushi! We were lucky to get everything put away before they wanted to dig into their supper.  While I enjoyed eating my pizza, I turned on the TV in the dining room and tuned straight into the hockey game.  The LA Kings managed to make it all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals, and I was excited!!! I refused to go outside for a fire until the end of the game because if the Kings won, the Cup was theirs.

When I was finally able to find the NBC channel, the Kings were up 4-1 and the Third Period had just started.  I immediately lost my mind! The poor neighbors we had were forced to endure my screaming at the television and jumping up and down through the last period of the game.  Ultimately, the Kings won the Stanley Cup - first time in franchise history!! I could NOT believe it!!!  So, where was I when the Kings won the Cup??? At the beach on vacation, of course!!

Once I settled down, we all went out to the fire pit where the girls roasted marshmallows to make very messy S'mores, and we enjoyed a cigar.  Christina decided that she was going to try a cigar as well, so we gave her a La Aurora to try since it was the most mild type that we had. Unfortunately, the cigar did not agree with her, but she enjoyed it while she was smoking it.

We got the girls to bed in the tent, and then we settled inside to get some sleep.  Considering our trips are in June, we have yet to have a full week of sun like we did the first year we started coming down here, so we were hoping to see the sunlight in the morning.  The girls were too excited to sleep, so we stayed up watching TV for a while, and I worked on my stitching until the girls were asleep, and then we all crashed into bed ourselves.  Well, Christina crashed on the couch.
