Sandia Soccer Team

Taylor has been completely excited that she made the Soccer Team for her school.  She has participated in every practice for the last two weeks, and she was totally psyched for her first game today.

Ken and I got there at 2 pm, which is when the field trip form stated was the start time.  True to the way the school has been working, Oh, that was when the bus was leaving but the games don't actually start until 3:30.  Crap! That would be great information to have before we left the house for a 2 pm game.

So, I took some pictures of her getting ready, and then we went home for some coffee to wait for the game to start.

When Ken and I returned to the field, the game had already started, so we sat down and watched the first half.  Taylor, sadly, runs like her Mama, and I'm worried that no amount of practicing will help her to look more "normal" when running.  I also giggled as I went through the pictures because when she is concentrating, her tongue sticks out like it always has.

Taylor was afraid of the ball hitting her and of the other girls kicking her.  I managed to get a couple pictures, and while I wanted to delete them, I felt it was important for her to see her performance on the field.

Most often, Taylor was so concentrated on the ball itself, that she would miss it because she wasn't anticipating where it was going.

Overall, Taylor did really well.  She kept worrying about where she was supposed to be for her position, and the Coach kept reminding her to follow-through and keep chasing down the ball rather than stop once it had passed.  When the coach gave her some time to rest so another girl could play, she was more than happy to sit.

Taylor spent most of the game playing in Fullback.  She is not a runner, so I figured she wouldn't be out front, and by the second half, she was starting to get more brave with attacking the ball.  She did really great for her first game, and we can't wait to see how well she improves by the end of the season - which is one game per week for the next 5 weeks.

The wind was hellacious today as is evidenced by the remains of the sand blowing all over the place behind Taylor.  Luckily, the girls weren't on that field and didn't get hit by the storm.

Team photo was taken after the game for the school yearbook.  Taylor could not have been happier to be a part of it.
