Hair Day

After a year, I was finally able to take Taylor to get the blue streaks in her hair that she earned.  She had 6 months of really great behavior at home and a perfect report card of A's, but the problem was that our hairdresser didn't like any of the blue dyes that were available.  I kept waiting; never forgetting my promise that Taylor could have it done, but I was so disappointed that everyone was complaining that the blue dyes washed out after a few washings.

FINALLY! I was talking to my hairdresser about using a kool-aid concoction and she got excited!  She found a dye that actually lasts now!  So, I made the appointment for Taylor and surprised her today by picking her up early from school.  We grabbed a hot cocoa, did some shopping and headed over for her surprise.

Taylor LOST....HER.....MIND! when she found out what I was up to.  Since I have never had my hair colored, I did not know what to expect.  It makes sense now, but I thought it was weird that her strips were first streaked blond and THEN she had the blue put on.

Taylor sitting with the foil on her head.  She did NOT get my joke about putting her arms
out at an angle so we could get HBO.  I'm very old

Here she is with the blond streaks - step 1
The entire time that Taylor was getting the color put in, her hair trimmed and styled, she had a huge smile plastered on her face.  When she saw the blue streaks, her smile somehow got larger. I did not think it was possible for a bigger smile, but it happened.

Taylor kept saying she loved, loved, loved her hair.  She just canNOT believe that I'm such a "cool Mama" for letting her get her hair done like this.  I keep reminding her and the hairdresser that hair is not a battle I choose to have with the girls - there are far more important things for me to deal with than hair.  Hair will grow back out or grow out to its original color.  What's important is that the girls love how they look!

(And when I say more important things to deal with, I'm not kidding.  On the way home, Taylor asked me what a condom is.  Holy crap!)

Love the picture of me and Mini-me!
I was able to get a trim and style, and Melodie was nice enough to take a picture so I could be in it.
This smile did not go away until she was asleep!
