Awards

On Thursday, I got a phone call from Mandy telling me that she was getting an award at school "NOW!"  I dropped everything (which was a beautifully made chef's salad) into the refrigerator and rushed over to the school.  Of course, I grabbed my large camera, but when I got there, I found that I had failed to put in the memory disc, so I was stuck using my phone.

Mandy got a "Good Reader Award" for improving her reading level and for getting 100% on almost all of her quizzes for the year.  I asked her after she got her award about her reading, and she said she was "totally into" reading.  When I remarked that I am always having to fight her to read at the house, Mandy commented, "That's because we don't have any cool books at home!"

Jordan brought home a note that same night stating that she was getting an award on Friday morning.  Well, at least I had some notice that time.  LOL  This time, I had the disc in the camera and was ready!

Being that this was a first grade assembly, there were more parents there, and the children were anxiously looking for their parents.  Jordan saw me, and she made sure that her teacher saw me as well.

"See Mr. G!  There's my mom!"

I took this pic to show Jordan's hair.  She always forgets to brush it in the back!"

Jordan won the Good Reader Award as well for improving her reading level and actively reading more in the classroom.  Again, I was stunned since it is like pulling teeth to get Jordan to read at home.  She said the exact same thing - apparently I don't have any "cool" books at home to read.  So weird considering that I'm a Lit teacher and the girls do not have room in their bookcase for all of the books they own.

The "#2" is because this is her second award in one school year.

I'm very proud of the girls for their achievements this year.  Taylor is bummed that she hasn't won an award this year, but I am sure that she did just as well to increase her levels and scores.
