Class Assignment

Since I have nowhere else to put this for now, I am entering my class assignment information in our Family Blog (Wordpress sucks!)

My current job is "Transition Specialist" for a virtual academy which is a public charter school which means the students do not "go" to school - they log in to school.  The homework assignment for the class that I have been enrolled in was to find videos that I can use in my virtual lessons that pertain to my job and how I would use them.  Here it is...

Here are some great videos that I found for my profession as Transition Specialist:

1.  Connecting High School to College and Career | Edutopia

http://www.edutopia.org/stw-career-technical-education-overview-video

This would be used to show my students that most schools are requiring "extra" work to get students ready for post-secondary life and how they are doing it.  Grades 9 - 12

2.  Summer Internships

http://www.5min.com/Video/Summer-Internships-279018974

This is GREAT for showing students how to get an internship and explains why it is important.  I would love to show this to all of my Juniors and Seniors

3.  Most Common Interview Questions

http://www.videojug.com/film/the-most-common-job-interview-questions

Another GREAT video for students to get an idea of what they will be asked before setting out on their first job interview.  I would show this to students Grades 10 - 12

4.  How to Choose the Right Career (UK)

http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-choose-the-right-career

This would be great for Grades 9 - 12.  It gives the students the ideas to start brainstorming if they have not determined a career yet.

5.  Choosing a Career  (US)

http://www.videojug.com/interview/choosing-a-career

This is for Grades 9 - 12.  Gives some other great information for students to think about when determining what their skills are for career determination.  Makes the determination between just getting a job and finding a career that is an extension of who they are with research ideas

6.  How to Choose the Right College

This was done by a young woman where she shows where to find information but also what to think about when making the decision. Grades 9 - 12 would benefit from this.

This is the magazine she refers to:  http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges

7.  Dorm Room Tours - great for Grades 11 - 12 to help them decide if "going away" to school would be a good option for them:

Here's a University's Apartment tour:
