Mira Costa High School 20 year Reunion

OK, for the record, I do NOT feel like it has been 20 years since I graduated from high school.  I mean, I still goof off, I still shy away from responsibility, etc.  I still FEEL like I'm 18-years-old and I'm working really hard to forget that my daughters are as old as they are - otherwise I'm faced with the truth, right?  Hahaha!

However, there was a huge push to post high school pics.  Here is me 20 fricken years ago:

So, Ken and I set off for Manhattan Beach and got settled into the hotel.  (We had the most incredible baby-sitter for the girls, so they didn't care we were gone.)  Once settled, we then headed over to my friend, Jeff Wells' house to visit with him and his wife as well as start the festivities with Kenny Murray who flew in from up north and was solo this weekend.

To say that we kicked off the weekend with some fun would be an understatement.  There was to be a pre-party at Ercoles, as there was last year, but we just never made it over there.  We met Jeff and Brie with Kenny and Kevin at Tomboys for supper.  Yum!  I love that place.  It's amazing how you miss the small things from your hometown.

We managed to convince Mike Harris to show up as well.  We hadn't seen him since Junior High and he's now an orthopedic surgeon.  Kevin Floyd was there - he is now a security guard for Marriott in Nevada, and Kenny is a cop in Solano County.  Cathie came over to hang out and we had a blast and were completely juvenile!

Kenny and Jeff's dog Mace had frequent make-out sessions!

We drank A LOT!

Cathie and Kenny being, well, teenagers again!

Ken and I were able to get back to our hotel, and I was so, very, incredibly excited, that we were up rather early and heading to the Hometown Fair.  I didn't do very much in the way of shopping this year, but I found some cool stuff that I "had" to have.  Then, we parked ourselves in the Beer Garden to see who all showed up.

I made sure to post a picture on FB showing I had a drink for all of those who couldn't make it

Ken, Jeff Wells, Jeff Maynard, Kevin Floyd and Kenny Murray.  These were my "boys" for the weekend!

It was seriously warm at the Beer Garden, and I was stupid enough to wear a tank top.  I got a TON of sun and then had to change into a dress that had straps smaller than my new tan lines.  Oh well!  We called it quits early at the Fair and headed back to the hotel so we could get ready for the reunion. I still think it was totally odd to have the reunion so early.  Angie and I were both at last year's reunion - me because I crashed it, her because she married from the Class of '89.  We hated having to stop things at the Fair to get ready for an early reunion (5 pm to 10pm, really?)

I chose not to take a purse, and Ken was kind enough to put my camera in his pocket.  Sadly, I only used my camera once, but I saw that a ton of people had their cameras, but the professional photographer and there was a picture booth.  I now wish I had used the booth more, but I was totally busy talking to people.  There were many people that I wish I had taken a picture with, but overall I had a GREAT time!  I am sad to report that one of the major cliques from high school still exists, but it was their loss.  Ken was amazing, as usually.  He let me walk away and talk to people and was completely comfortable with anyone.

Someone had actually brought the yearbook to the reunion!  The rest of us left ours in the hotel!

Yeah, the one pic that I got with my camera - me with Gary Stiles (thank you again Gary for helping
me to practice kissing in high school!)

I could NOT figure out where my name tag had gone.  One of the Committee Members found it later!
Too much dancing for me!  HeeHee
Currently, I am waiting for my copy of the Reunion CD from the photographer which will have a few more pictures of me, but many pictures of the night.  I was saddened to learn that one person I was looking forward to seeing had passed away.  No one is certain why, which bothered me more.  RIP Bobby Dominguez.  In retrospect over the entire evening, Ken wanted to point out that I had been completely clueless in high school (like I didn't realize that at last year's).  Apparently, I was more accepted than I thought and it seems that most everyone actually gave a damn about me.  OK, so it's time to seriously adjust my own goggles.

All in all, I had a great time.  I was personally disappointed that there weren't decorations with school colors, but we were there for the people, not the props.  On another note, I thought the music selection and "interactive dancers" was an odd choice, but that was all drowned out by the fact that I was seeing some great friends that I hadn't seen in so long.  Facebook does a great job at keeping people together no matter time or distance, but it is so fabulous to see everyone in the flesh and hang out.

After the reunion, Ken and I headed back to the hotel to change into street clothes and then we took a cap back to Jeff's house.  We got completely hammered and had a great time when Kevin passed out.  We enjoyed ourselves and hanging out with old friends - learning what happened in our lives and getting caught up.

All in all, Kevin was a great sport.  When we sobered up, we sort-of felt bad for what we did, but not too much.  He had passed out first AND he took up the bathroom for 30 minutes.  My cheeks and stomach hurt for days due to laughing over this.

The next morning, Ken and I barely dragged ourselves out of the hotel in time for check out and went back over to Jeff and Brie's house.  Brie was wonderful and supplied us all with a very greasy breakfast to help our heads. OK, so it HAS been 20 years!  I cannot party like that anymore!  Hahahaha!  Jeff, Kenny and Ken still thought it would be a great idea to head to the range so we could all shoot together.

Now, I went along with this so I could check out Jeff and Kenny's skills on a range, and Kenny was definitely interested to see mine.  Jeff took his 3" .44 magnum that had some serious rounds.  After the first few that he let off in the lane next to me, I realized that shooting with a hangover - especially at an indoor range - was a really, really bad idea.

After shooting, Ken and I headed home.  We were seriously tired and very hung over for days, but we had a great time.  Ken is quite the amazing husband allowing me to flirt and carry on with old "flames" and I look forward to returning the favor next summer at HIS 20th HS Reunion in New York.
