We were really surprised by the weather - it was cold, rainy and windy. Last year, we were dressed in shorts and tank tops and we were still sweating! When we got there, Taylor wanted to have a snack first. I cannot begin to say how happy I was that she chose a funnel cake. There is nothing better than a County Fair funnel cake!
After enjoying our funnel cake, we walked through the shopping areas to see what was new. We found the Bikers for Jesus booth where they allowed Taylor to take a picture on one of their bikes. Of course, they were hoping that the kids would want to take a picture and then we the parents were handed a little pamphlet. No pressure here, just having a great day.
After we walked through the shopping areas, we went to the Craft Exhibit Halls. Taylor wanted to see how everything worked since she has just started cross-stitching. We saw a lot of amazing pieces that people had made over the year. Everything was awesome! There were not a lot of cross-stitched pieces, but the ones that were there were very well done. Taylor asked me if I was going to try for a ribbon again. So, she and I agreed that we would both finish a stitched piece and enter them into the Fair next year.
Taylor couldn't believe some of the things that kids had made when we went through the Juniors Exhibit Hall. She saw some great collections, quilts, stories and models, but she noticed that there wasn't one cross-stitched design. There was one needlework piece. Taylor is now COMPLETELY excited that she could not only win a blue ribbon, but she could win the "best in division" because she would be the only one. I told her to get some stitching done and then see what happens next year.
After leaving the crafts, we went to see the animals. The first thing that Taylor saw were the pigs. She has decided that these are disgusting animals and this was the worst one:
Taylor loved all of the baby cows. She had to stop to pet each and every one. Luckily, no one minded that she was touching all of their prized animals.
After the cows, came the goats. This man was going to let Taylor try to milk his goat, but she had no desire to try it.
This was Taylor's absolute favorite moment of the Fair: baby goats only a day old!
We managed to hang out for a few more minutes. We walked past this area, and all I could think was that I have GOT to get one for my backyard!
The kid climbs inside, you blow it up with air, and they spend a TON of energy trying to get around. One kid came out of the bubble and collapsed on the ground because he was exhausted after moving around in this thing. Even Taylor commented that she would sleep well after 5 minutes in this thing!
We left the Fair and headed home. I made a stop at Sonic to share supper with Taylor. She enjoyed some vanilla syrup in her Root Beer, and the entire meal was far less than I would have paid at the Fair for the two of us. LOL
It's great that the Fair is only once a year, but we're sad that we didn't get to enjoy it properly. Here's to next year!
